This, instead, establishes the multiple female characters that embody the femme fatale in The Hard Goodbye, as the audience meets Lucille and then Wendy and her gang. This translates well to screen as audiences in the 21^st century increasingly appreciate strong female leads more; the first appearance of Goldie as a somewhat helpless seductress is subverted by the increasingly strong femme fatale leads.
