The Hard Goodbye retains much of the
atmosphere and the effect in translation from novel to film owing to Miller’s
direction keeping camera shots and angles from the novel to the film. This means
that it keeps its classic, comic-book feel and subtle references that Miller
includes that liken Marv to classic superheroes still translate. These appear
in illustrations such as when Marv is swimming through the water and running
across the rooftops.
