One of the ways that Film Noir is emphasised on screen
is in the use of white tones; light tones are largely absent, favouring greys
in place of white. Therefore, they accentuate the Noir feel by making the use
of pure white rare. Meaning that when it appears it becomes more significant
and makes the object seem luminescent in contrast to the dark monochrome
surroundings, such as Marv’s plasters and Kevin’s glasses. This contrasts to
the novel, in which the use of black is more varied due to the white of the
paper on which it was published.
