#2 Noir

The Film Noir genre is established in the novel with the use of monochrome illustration including buildings that appear to be endlessly tall in an urban setting. This setting is used in both forms but is accentuated on screen by things such as the use of light, which is done to communicate the moral dubiousness of the characters. The surroundings reflect the characters, contributing to the characterisation and subconsciously giving the audience insight into what kind of people would live here; the characters.
