What’s interesting to note is Sin City, the novel, is
entirely black and white. Miller cleverly uses stereotypes in a way that
subconsciously communicates the colour of particular things to the audience, a
prime example of this is Goldie’s red lips and golden hair. Because the novel
is in monochrome, the reader obviously cannot see that Goldie’s lips are red
and her hair is blonde, yet due to Miller’s use of the stereotypical seductress
and femme fatale in illustrating the scenes in which she appears, the reader sees these colours.
